Does anyone else smell things most people don’t?

I don’t know WHAT is wrong with my olfactory system… but I often smell completely different scents from what others say. For example:

I don’t know WHAT is wrong with my olfactory system… but I often smell completely different scents from what others say. For example:

Eilish (gold bottle): Others – sweet vanilla cocoa and light spices Me – sharp green leaves, and a cumin type spice reminiscent of BO

Ariana Cloud: Others – Sweet marshmallow creamy vanilla and a slight toothpaste smell Me – The nastiest generic hollister type mens cologne scent (also get this from dupes like Pacifica Dream Moon, BBW In The Stars)

Sabrina Carpenter Sweet Tooth: Others – creamy marshmallow vanilla Me – sweet and super floral, slight perfumey burnt marshmallow

Kyse Marshmallow: Others – pure puffy powdery marshmallow Me – SMOKE and marshmallow

Chabaud Vanille: Others – delicious vanilla ice cream yum Me – literal urine

Lavanila Vanilla Coconut: Others – Creamy delicious beach coconut Me – Extremely powdery vintage white and purple florals

Anything with wood, florals, spicy green notes, or heavy musks seems to be amplified to my nose where it goes from the background for other people to all I can smell. I’m not sure why what I smell is so wildly different, but it makes trying perfume so hard. I’ll read these reviews about an absolutely delicious gourmand cake scent, and it just smells like plastic or powder to me. Or a review about an amazing creamy vanilla ice cream scent, and all I smell is urine. Or a bright zingy citrus, and all I smell is the vetiver.

I think this is more than “everybody is different” because for a lot of these, what I smell is not even in the same universe as what the majority of people smell. Is there an explanation as to why 99% of people will say one thing, while I and sometimes one other person will smell what I smell? Sometimes no one else? 😭
